Here’s What Happened:
Welcome to everyone for joining us for our first broadcast Hangout, we hope you’ll join us online, in person and at the many meetings and events we have planned for the coming year.
STEAM Family Day at Balboa Park

Volunteers are needed for everything from setup, logistics, working with artists and museums to teach techniques and encourage participation in the many museum-sponsored events. We also need volunteers for the Makers Guild tables on the Prado.
No planning meeting would be complete without mentioning Cupcake Cars! Yes, we’re building giant-sized motorized cupcakes that will be driven around at events. If you have skills in design, welding, metal or wood work, sewing or want to learn any or all of those skills, contact Dan or Margie and we’ll get you started.

We’re going to start the cupcake fabrication at Open Source Maker Labs in Vista, and then one or more frames will be transported down to Fab Lab in downtown San Diego so there’s a location near you where you can help build these tasty transportable treats.

Fab Lab San Diego is celebrating their relaunch! As part of the relocation, Fab Lab welcomes the community to come share the new workspace and see how you can be part of the vibrant maker community.
Our next meetup will be February 16 at Fab Lab San Diego. Come check out the Lab’s new space and learn about the workshops and classes held at this new downtown location.

We have multiple meetup groups hosting events of interest to makers. Our affiliate groups:

Our general meetups are free and open to all. There are many classes and workshops offered by the different meetup groups that addressing multiple interests and all skill levels. If you’re interested in learning something and don’t yet see a class, just ask! And if you’ve got skills or experience, consider teaching a workshop.
Your participation in Guild business and at events is always welcome. Got an idea for a presentation at a meetup? A location worthy of a group tour? What do you want to learn? What do have to share? Our bigger events require lots of planning and there’s a place for everyone, regardless of your background. Volunteers are needed for jobs that are behind the scenes, logistics and operations, working with other organizations, interacting with the public, teaching techniques and mini workshops, and many more.
As always, we’re looking for people to help with the Makers Guild website, that includes blogging about projects and makers, events of interest to makers, filling out our resource page, managing the website and helping to turn it into the resource we know it can be.
